About Us
|
We were founded by Seattle parents of children with disabilities who wrote the first legislation to ensure an education to children like theirs, then went on to prove that people with disabilities are a valuable addition to the workplace.
What began as Northwest Center job training and workshops evolved in the early 1970s into businesses where people with and without disabilities worked side by side: a furniture woodworking shop, a secure shredding company, and assembly, packaging, and administrative services for companies and organizations including Nordstrom, Starbucks, and King County of WA. Northwest Center’s first business operation has been going strong since 1967: our Big Blue Truck partners with Value Village, collecting donated clothing and household items which Value Village purchases to fund our services. Our first wholly owned business, Puget Sound Laundry Services, was established in 1994 and still delivers the highest quality of commercial laundry services. Across every Northwest Center business today, nearly 40% of our workforce has a documented disability. |
A Diverse Workforce is Good for Business
Don't just take it from us. According to research conducted by the Institute for Corporate Productivity, hiring people with disabilities improves productivity and boosts the bottom line. We invite you to join premiere companies such as Walgreens, Starbucks, Amazon.com, UPS, AMC Theatres, Microsoft, Safeway, and more that have recognized the many benefits of a diversified workforce which includes people of all abilities working side by side to offer world-class service. With 55+ years of experience, Northwest Center will put the power of inclusion to work for your business. |
